The French Detective

The French Detective, originally titled Adieu poulet, is a 1975 French comedy-thriller directed by Pierre Granier-Deferre. Francis Veber's screenplay was adapted from Raf Vallet's 1974 novel Adieu poulet!, which was itself inspired by a real-life incident that occurred in Puteaux in 1971. The 96-minute film was produced by Georges Dancigers, with music composed by Philippe Sarde.

Lino Ventura and Patrick Dewaere lead the cast, supported by Claude Rich, Victor Lanoux, Françoise Brion, and Henri Attal. The film earned two César nominations, for best supporting actor and best editing. It was released in Germany as Adieu, Bulle and in East Germany under the title Ungleiches Duell.
