Chicken with Vinegar
Chicken with Vinegar (Poulet au vinaigre, released as Cop au Vin) is a 1985 French crime film directed by Claude Chabrol and produced by MK2. The cast includes Jean Poiret, Stéphane Audran, Michel Bouquet and Lucas Belvaux. The film was selected for competition at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival. Its original French title is a play on words: it literally means "vinegar chicken," but "poulet" is also French slang for a policeman, and the English title puns on coq au vin. The picture introduced Inspector Lavardin, the detective played by Poiret, and launched a short series when Chabrol returned to the character in the 1986 follow-up Inspecteur Lavardin. For his performance here, Lucas Belvaux received a 1986 César nomination as most promising actor.
