The Flying Wardrobe (L'Armoire volante, released in English-speaking markets as The Cupboard Was Bare) is a 1948 French comedy-crime film written and directed by Carlo Rim. Headlined by the popular comic actor Fernandel alongside Pauline Carton and Annette Poivre, it was filmed at the Boulogne Studios in Paris, with sets created by art director Emile Alex. The supporting cast includes Edmond Beauchamp, Luc Andrieux, Berthe Bovy and Gaston Modot, familiar character players of postwar French cinema. Running about ninety minutes, the picture blends crime elements with the light, humorous tone typical of French comedies of its period, carried by Fernandel's trademark screen presence.
