Marie Antoinette Queen of France (French: Marie-Antoinette reine de France, also released as Shadow of the Guillotine) is a 1955 French-Italian historical drama directed by Jean Delannoy. The film portrays Marie Antoinette, the ill-fated queen whose life at the French court unfolds against the gathering storm of the Revolution. Michèle Morgan plays the title role, opposite English actor Richard Todd. The picture was made at the Billancourt Studios in Paris, with sets created by art director René Renoux, and was filmed in both French and English versions; Nancy Mitford contributed to the English-language script. Todd later recalled that Delannoy's highly meticulous approach, in which every movement was planned in advance, could feel restrictive to him and to Morgan. The film earned Delannoy a Palme d'Or nomination at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival.
