The Indian Tomb

“Das indische Grabmal” is a 1959 West German-Italian-French adventure film directed by Fritz Lang, and the second half of his “Indian Epic” duology after “The Tiger of Eschnapur”, also released in 1959. The film is adapted from the 1918 novel by Lang’s former wife Thea von Harbou, with the screenplay credited to Lang and Werner Jörg Lüddecke, and was produced by Artur Brauner’s CCC Film. Its premiere took place on 5 March 1959 in Stuttgart.

The cast includes Debra Paget, Paul Hubschmid, Walther Reyer, Claus Holm, Valéry Inkijinoff and Sabine Bethmann. Interiors were filmed at the Spandau Studios in West Berlin on sets designed by art directors Helmut Nentwig and Willy Schatz. In 1960, American International Pictures acquired both parts of the duology and combined them into a heavily edited 90-minute feature titled “Journey to the Lost City” for the American market, while the second film itself is a direct continuation of the first.
