The Tiger of Eschnapur

The Tiger of Eschnapur (German: Der Tiger von Eschnapur) is a 1959 adventure film directed by Fritz Lang, a co-production of West Germany, France, and Italy. It is the first part of Lang's two-film cycle known as the "Indian Epic," completed by The Indian Tomb, released the same year. The film is a loose remake of the 1921 silent classic Das indische Grabmal and the 1938 film of the same name, based on the novel by Thea von Harbou, and marked Lang's return to directing in Germany.

The story centers on a German architect summoned to India to build schools and hospitals for a maharaja, and the Eurasian dancer whose love for him provokes the jealous ruler's wrath. The film premiered on 21 January 1959 at the Palast-Theater in Hanover. Parts of the production were shot on location among the scenic palaces of Udaipur in Rajasthan, India.
