The World of Jacques Demy

L'Univers de Jacques Demy (The World of Jacques Demy) is a French documentary directed and written by Agnès Varda, released in 1995 as a tribute to the celebrated filmmaker Jacques Demy, her late husband and fellow director.

Running about 90 minutes, the film brings together many of the performers who worked with Demy over his career. Alongside Catherine Deneuve, Jeanne Moreau and Nino Castelnuovo, figures such as Anouk Aimée, Danielle Darrieux, Michel Piccoli, Dominique Sanda and Demy's son Mathieu Demy appear in the documentary. Through these testimonies and archival material, Varda offers a personal portrait of Demy's artistic universe and his enduring legacy in French cinema.
