Under the Chinese Restaurant

Under the Chinese Restaurant, originally titled Sotto il ristorante cinese and also known as Trouble in Paradise, is a 1987 Italian fantasy comedy film written and directed by Bruno Bozzetto. Bozzetto is best known for his animated films and comic strips, and this production stands as his first and only live-action feature.

Produced by Reteitalia, the Italian-language film runs 94 minutes. Its cast includes Claudio Botosso, Amanda Sandrelli, Bernard Blier, Nancy Brilli, Giuseppe Cederna, Cinzia Monreale, and Haruhiko Yamanouchi as the Chinese chef. Released in Italy in 1987, the film was seen by a Variety critic at the Cannes film market, who found it generally well made while noting a tension between its fairytale innocence and its erotic frankness.
