Zirzəmi

Filmed in 1990, the Azerbaijani drama Zirzəmi was directed by Davud Imanov for the Azerbaijanfilm studio and stars Rasim Balayev and Yaşar Nuri. At its core is Teymur, a civil servant who serves as his household's sole provider. The burden of earning money slowly separates him from his true passion, art, until he settles into life as an uninspired, ordinary craftsman.

Unable to keep enduring such a stifling, unfulfilling existence, his wife Səbinə ultimately walks away from their marriage. The film examines how sweeping shifts in society and inner life force people to reconsider the paths, hopes and choices they have left behind, tracing how a creator's connection to his own work erodes under such pressure and what different bond eventually takes its place.
