Yılmaz Köksal — Biography

Yılmaz Köksal was born on 26 November 1939 in Kırşehir and died on 22 October 2015 in Istanbul. The son of a police officer and brother of cartoonist Yücel Köksal, he trained at an arts institute in Istanbul before spending time working on ships that took him around Europe. He entered the film industry in 1965 and went on to appear in more than two hundred films and television productions, becoming a familiar face in Turkish cinema. He was especially associated with adventure films such as the Malkoçoğlu series and Zagor, gradually moving from background parts to leading roles. In a 2009 comedy western he reprised a police-inspector character he had first played decades earlier. On television he was widely recognized for a long-running role as a craftsman in a popular series. Also credited as a screenwriter, Köksal remained active in film and television work until his death.
