Berk Cankat — Biography

Ömer Berk Cankat is a Turkish actor and graphic designer of Circassian descent, best known for playing Cemal in Güzel Köylü, İskender in Muhteşem Yüzyıl Kösem and the lead in Yıldızlar Şahidim. Born on 9 May 1984 in Ankara, he spent his childhood moving between Ankara, Eskişehir and Hatay because of his father's work as an architect and contractor, completing primary school in Hatay. He took part in school theater and had his first amateur stage role in 1999, in Haldun Taner's Ayışığında Şamata. After graduating in graphic design from Bilkent University, he moved to Istanbul intending to work as a designer, but turned to acting instead, training at the Akademi 35 Buçuk Sanat Evi and assisting directors Civan Canova and Vahide Perçin on stage productions. He made his television debut in 2013 as Savaş in Sana Bir Sır Vereceğim, appeared as a guest in Medcezir, then took the lead in Güzel Köylü, for which he won an Elle Style Award for Actor of the Year. After Muhteşem Yüzyıl Kösem, he starred in Yıldızlar Şahidim, Gülizar and Bir Deli Rüzgar, during which he began a relationship with co-star Pınar Deniz. He returned in 2022 with Aslında Özgürsün and Sıfırıncı Gün, and took his first film role as Ali Fuat in the Atatürk 1881-1919 films in 2023-2024. He joined Aşk ve Gözyaşı in 2025 and Zeytin Ağacı in 2026, and has been publicly in a relationship with actress Sinem Ünsal since 2023.
