Erol Günaydın — Biography
Erol Günaydın (16 April 1933, Akçaabat, Trabzon - 15 October 2012, Istanbul) was a Turkish theatre and film actor. He took up acting at Galatasaray High School and made his professional stage debut in 1955 at the Haldun Dormen Pocket Theatre with the play "Papaz Kaçtı"; his first film role followed in 1960.
He was especially renowned for his portrayal of Nasreddin Hoca and for his performances in the traditional Turkish meddah one-man shows. Over a career of roughly fifty years he appeared in numerous films, series and stage plays, among them Yılmayan Şeytan (1972), Pardon (2005), Beyaz Melek (2007), Nekrüt (2008), and Orada and Kanal-İ-zasyon (2009), as well as the television series Cennet Mahallesi and Akasya Durağı.
Hospitalised in Bodrum in August 2012, Günaydın died in Istanbul on 15 October 2012.
