There (Orada)

There is a 2009 Turkish drama film written and directed by Hakkı Kurtuluş and Melik Saraçoğlu. Running about 96 minutes, it follows roughly twenty-four hours in the life of a scattered Istanbul family, and after its nationwide release in Turkey on December 25, 2009, it was screened at numerous international film festivals.

The story begins when two siblings who have not spoken in years reunite for the funeral of their mother, who had been living in a nursing home near Istanbul. The sister had cared for their mother for years before finally placing her in the home, while the brother has been living abroad for a long time. After carrying out their final duties, the pair find their father, who lives in seclusion in the family house on Büyükada, and everything left unsaid is finally voiced. Starring Dolunay Soysert, Sinan Tuzcu, and Erol Günaydın, the cast also includes Füsun Erbulak and Bahtiyar Engin.
