Hulusi Kentmen — Biography

Hulusi Kentmen (born 1911 in Tarnovo, Bulgaria; died 1993 in Istanbul) was a Turkish film and stage actor. He served as a petty officer in the Turkish Navy and turned to the arts after retiring, making his professional stage debut with Hisse-i Şaiya. He performed with the People's Houses, the Burhanettin Tepsi Company, Ses Theatre, and the Istanbul City Theatres, and later staged productions with his own theater troupe. He made his film debut in 1942 with Sürtük and, over a career spanning more than fifty years, appeared in close to 500 films and television series. In Turkish cinema he became identified with a warm, fatherly supporting-character type, typically cast as a father, police commissioner, gardener, or judge. In 1967 he toured Anatolia with Hüseyin Baradan and Şahin Tek, before a further tour alongside Atıf Kaptan.
