İhsan Yüce — Biography

Mehmet İhsan Yüce (23 January 1929, Elazığ – 15 May 1991, Istanbul) was a Turkish film and theatre actor, screenwriter, director and poet. Some records give his year of birth as 1930, but the majority of sources agree on 1929.

He studied at İzmir Atatürk High School and then at the Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences, working for a time as an accountant. His stage career began in 1952 at the People's and Children's Theatre in İzmir; he founded the short-lived Bizim Tiyatro, worked at the Lale Oraloğlu Theatre in 1965–1966, and in 1968 founded the Drama Theatre in Ankara, where he staged Crime and Punishment and Limelight. He continued in the theatre at the Gen-Ar, Arena and Direklerarası stages.

His screen breakthrough came with Altın Yumruk, and he established himself with films such as Senede Bir Gün, Bir Millet Uyanıyor and Sürtüğün Kızı, winning the Golden Orange for best actor for Derya Gülü. In all he appeared in 117 films, wrote the screenplays for 55 and directed 6. His remembered roles include Hacı Hüso in Kibar Feyzo, the Ağa in Davaro, Ali in Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım and Osman Baba in Kan.
