Lucia Mascino — Biography

Lucia Mascino is a versatile Italian actress whose work runs from the stage to cinema and television. She reached a wide audience through her role in Nanni Moretti's We Have a Pope; in 2018 she won the Anna Magnani Award for best actress at the Bifest in Bari for her lead role in a film by Francesca Comencini, a performance that also brought nominations for the Globo d'oro and the Nastro d'Argento.

While studying mathematics, physics and natural sciences she earned an acting diploma at a theatre research centre in Pontedera, then left university to concentrate on the stage. She worked with Teatro Settimo in Turin and the young company of the Teatro Stabile delle Marche, and from 2000 to 2005 toured Europe in Giorgio Barberio Corsetti's company with stagings of Kafka, Ovid and Büchner. In 2007 she won the ETI New Sensitivity Award for Io sono Internazionale, which she wrote and performed with Rebecca Murgi. From 2005 she added cinema and television, with Un altro pianeta, Il rosso e il blu, Viva la libertà (Yaşasın Özgürlük), La prima pietra and Holiday on Mars among her notable films.

On television she played the protagonist Chiara Guerrieri in Una mamma imperfetta and the corrupt parliamentarian Gabriella Santi in two seasons of Suburra. In recent years she has appeared in The Wedding Days and Anna.
