Murat Cemcir — Biography

Murat Cemcir was born on 30 November 1976 in the Niksar district of Tokat to a family of Georgian descent. A graduate of Mustafa Kemal University, he began his acting career in supporting roles in films such as Takva, Polis and Yeraltı, and drew wider attention through the Selçuk Aydemir-directed series Üsküdar'a Giderken and Ramazan Güzeldir.

He found his breakthrough as part of an on-screen duo with Ahmet Kural, appearing together in the film Çalgı Çengi and its sequel Çalgı Çengi İkimiz, the series İşler Güçler and Kardeş Payı, and the 2013 hit Düğün Dernek and its sequel Düğün Dernek 2: Sünnet; Düğün Dernek became one of the most-watched Turkish films of the previous three decades. In 2018 he stepped outside his comic image to play İdris Karasu in Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Cannes-competing The Wild Pear Tree, the same year he appeared in Ailecek Şaşkınız, followed by the role of Niyazi in Baba Parası in 2020. He speaks Georgian fluently and is also interested in horseback riding and Wing Chun.

In July 2026 Cemcir spent three days in intensive care after suffering internal bleeding; speaking publicly about it for the first time months later, he said he had narrowly pulled through.
