Inside (Yeraltı)

Inside (Yeraltı) is a 2012 Turkish drama film written and directed by Zeki Demirkubuz. Drawing on Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1864 novella Notes from Underground, the film transplants the story to contemporary Ankara and premiered at the 31st Istanbul Film Festival.

Its protagonist, Muharrem, is a solitary man consumed by resentment and disappointment. One evening he forces his way into a dinner gathering of old friends he has come to despise. The bickering and displays of ego around the table reopen long-buried accounts, and over the course of the night Muharrem is confronted by his own jealousy, anger and shame. Through these clashes, the film examines an individual's existential struggles and the darker corners of his inner life.

Engin Günaydın leads the cast, with Nergis Öztürk, Serhat Tutumluer, Nihal Yalçın, Murat Cemcir, Sarp Apak, Serkan Keskin and Sırrı Süreyya Önder in supporting roles.
