A Man from the South of the City

A Man from the South of the City (Persian: Mardi az jonoob-e shahr) is a 1970 Iranian feature film directed by Saber Rahbar. Shot in Persian and running roughly 106 minutes, it mixes romance and drama within the commercial genre cinema of pre-revolutionary Iran.

The picture stars Mohammad-Ali Fardin, the former wrestler who became one of the most beloved screen idols of his generation. He is supported by Füruzan, Taghi Zohouri, Reza Abdi and Ali Dehghan. Named after Tehran's working-class southern neighbourhoods, the film is counted among the mainstream Persian-language productions through which Fardin consolidated his enormous popularity in the years before the 1979 revolution.
