Füruzan — Biography

Born Parvin Kheirbakhsh, Füruzan (Persian: فروزان), known internationally as Forouzan, was a leading Iranian film actress and producer of the pre-revolution era. She was born on 25 August 1937 in Bandar-e Anzali and initially worked in dubbing before moving in front of the camera.

Director Siamak Yasemi cast her in the 1963 drama Sahel-e Entezar, and his 1965 hit Ganj-e Gharoon turned her into a national star. Opposite leading man Mohammad Ali Fardin she formed one of the most celebrated screen pairings of the so-called Film Farsi era, the commercially dominant genre of Iranian cinema before 1979. Across the 1960s and 1970s she appeared in more than sixty pictures, working with filmmakers such as Ali Hatami. Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution she was barred from further screen work and never returned to acting. She died in Tehran on 24 January 2016 at the age of 78.
