The Round Mill

The Round Mill (Charkh-e Falak) is a 1967 Iranian drama film written and directed by Saber Rahbar. The Persian-language picture stars Mohammad-Ali Fardin, one of the era's most popular screen idols, alongside Beyk İmanverdi and Azar Shiva. Running about 128 minutes, the film is a remake of the celebrated Indian classic Awaara, directed by and starring Raj Kapoor, reflecting the strong influence of Hindi cinema on Iranian popular filmmaking of the period. Majid Faridfar, who portrayed Fardin's character as a child in this and several other films, was later killed at the front during the war that followed the Iranian revolution, shortly after his marriage. The film remains a notable example of pre-revolutionary Iranian melodrama.
