A Minute to Pray, a Second to Die (Un minuto per pregare, un istante per morire)

For Franco Giraldi, this 1968 Spaghetti Western was the fourth western and also his last. Set up as an American co-production with the American Broadcasting Company named as producer, A Minute to Pray, a Second to Die (Italian: Un minuto per pregare, un istante per morire) opened in Italy in February 1968 and in its original form runs about 118 minutes.

Alex Cord takes the lead, with the American stars Robert Ryan and Arthur Kennedy beside him. The cast also includes Mario Brega, Nicoletta Machiavelli, Enzo Fiermonte, Giampiero Albertini, Renato Romano, Franco Balducci, John Bartha and Alberto Dell'Acqua. Ugo Liberatore and Albert Band wrote the screenplay.

The project was first planned with Sergio Corbucci as director, and Raffaella Carrà and Renzo Palmer were meant to join the cast. The American version of the film was heavily cut: it runs 16 minutes shorter than the original and has a different ending. The first showing in German-speaking countries took place on 3 July 1968, under the title Mehr tot als lebendig.
