Bacon on the Side
Bacon on the Side (French title Il reste du jambon?) is a 2010 French romantic comedy written and directed by Anne Depétrini. The story centers on Djalil Boudaoud (Ramzy Bedia), a surgeon raised in a family of North African origin, and Justine Lacroix (Anne Marivin), a reporter working in television. Their budding romance runs into trouble when both households push back, unwilling to accept the cultural distance separating them. Much of the humor springs from the friction between the two families and the lengths the couple goes to in order to defend their relationship. Alongside the two leads, the ensemble features Leïla Bekhti, Géraldine Nakache, Marie-France Pisier, Alex Lutz, Franck Gastambide, Éric Judor, Jean-Luc Bideau and Biyuna. At roughly ninety minutes, the picture stands among Depétrini's first feature-length directing credits, tackling intercultural romance in contemporary France through a lighthearted comic lens.
