Jean-Paul Salomé directed the 2001 French fantasy-horror film Belphégor, le fantôme du Louvre, known in English as Belphegor, Phantom of the Louvre. With mystery elements as well, shot in French and running about 93 minutes, it is loosely adapted from Arthur Bernède's 1927 novel Belphégor. The novel had earlier been made into a French television series; this film is counted as the book's third screen adaptation.

The story begins when the spirit of a mummy in the Louvre possesses a young woman, played by Sophie Marceau, and a series of uncanny events is set off in the museum. Marceau is joined by Michel Serrault, Frédéric Diefenthal, Julie Christie and Juliette Gréco, with Lionel Abelanski, Jean-François Balmer, Patachou, Christian Hecq, Féodor Atkine, Françoise Lépine, Daniel Delabesse, François Levantal and Laurent Bateau also in the cast.

Salomé wrote the screenplay with Danièle Thompson and Jérôme Tonnerre. The film is the first feature to be shot in part inside the world-famous Musée du Louvre. Its German title is simply Belphégor, and its Spanish one is La máscara del faraón.
