Once Upon a Time (Bir Varmış Bir Yokmuş) (translated)

Bir Varmış Bir Yokmuş ("Once Upon a Time") is a 2015 Turkish film directed by İlksen Başarır, who also co-wrote the screenplay with lead actor Mert Fırat. Produced by Kutu Film, with cinematography by Emre Tanyıldız and music by Ali Güçlü Şimsek and Görkem Karabudak, the romantic musical drama opened in cinemas on March 6, 2015.

The story follows Nehir, who is so touched by a song that she sets out to find the person behind it — a road that leads her to the rock musician Ozan. Caught between her determination and his wavering moods, their relationship is framed as the last fairy tale left to grown-ups.

Mert Fırat plays Ozan and, for the role, performed Müslüm Gürses's song "Nilüfer" himself; Melisa Sözen stars as Nehir. The cast also features Hare Sürel as Sibel, alongside Selen Öztürk, Derya Durmaz, Judith Lieberman and Göktay Tosun.
