A Step into the Darkness (Büyük Oyun)

A Step into the Darkness (Turkish: Büyük Oyun) is a 2009 Turkish drama film directed by Atıl İnaç, his second feature. Written by Avni Özgürel and İnaç, it was shot on real locations in Erbil and Mosul in Iraq and in Adıyaman, Urfa and Istanbul in Türkiye.

The story follows Cennet, a young Iraqi-Turkmen girl who loses her entire family when soldiers raid their village and then undertakes a difficult journey along the Iraq-Türkiye border to find her brother, who was sent to Türkiye for treatment. Suzan Genç stars in the lead role. The film premiered at the 2009 Montreal World Film Festival and went on general release across Türkiye on September 17, 2010. It won acting and cinematography awards at festivals in Ankara, Adana and Tiburon, among others.
