Chouchou
Chouchou is a 2003 French comedy film directed by Merzak Allouache, who co-wrote the screenplay with Gad Elmaleh. The film follows a cross-dressing Maghrebi immigrant who settles in Paris in search of his nephew. Released in Turkey as Gönül Çelen, it drew around four million admissions in France during its theatrical run.
In the story, Chouchou poses as a refugee to find shelter and is taken in by the kind-hearted Father Leon, who also finds him a job as a cleaner for psychologist Dr. Milovavich. When Chouchou admits he wants to be a woman, he begins coming to work in women's clothing. Gad Elmaleh, who plays the title role, was nominated for the César Award for Best Actor for his performance.
