Colours of Time
Colours of Time (La Venue de l'avenir) is a 2025 period drama co-written and directed by Cédric Klapisch with Santiago Amigorena, a co-production between France and Belgium. When four cousins with very different lives inherit a house in rural Normandy, they discover they share a mysterious family past and retrace the steps of their ancestors. The story unfolds on two timelines: in 1895, the 21-year-old Adèle leaves her hometown for Paris to search for her mother, encountering a city energized by the rise of photography and the birth of Impressionist painting, while her modern-day descendants piece together her surprising history.
Starring Suzanne Lindon, Abraham Wapler, Vincent Macaigne, Julia Piaton, Zinedine Soualem and Paul Kircher, the film premiered out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival on 22 May 2025 and opened in French cinemas the same day.
