Vincent Perez — Biography
Breaking through in French cinema with Cyrano de Bergerac, the Swiss actor Vincent Perez went on to Hollywood and also directs and takes photographs. Internationally he is known as Ashe Corven, the Crow himself in The Crow: City of Angels, and as Marius de Romanus in Queen of the Damned.
The son of a Spanish father and a German mother, Perez began acting studies in Geneva, continued at the national conservatoire in Paris and finished at the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers school, moving from the stage into film. His breakthrough was Christian opposite Gérard Depardieu in Cyrano de Bergerac, which earned him a César nomination. In the 1990s he appeared in films such as Indochine, Fanfan, La Reine Margot and Ligne de vie, and his co-stars have included Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani and Aaliyah. Later he played Morel in Time Regained and Denis Diderot in The Libertine, appeared as the creature in the 2004 television film Frankenstein, and kept working in productions such as At Eternity's Gate. On French television he was Lieutenant Vincent Revel in Paris enquêtes criminelles.
He turned to directing with short films; L'échange and Rien à dire were both nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes. His photographs have been shown at Arles and in galleries in Moscow and Monte Carlo.
