Battle of the Brave

Battle of the Brave (originally titled Nouvelle-France in French) is a 2004 historical drama and romance film produced as a co-production between France, the United Kingdom and Canada. Directed by Jean Beaudin from a screenplay by Pierre Billon and Gilles Carle, it was shot simultaneously in English and French versions. With a budget of roughly 30 million Canadian dollars, it was at the time the most expensive film ever made in Quebec.

Set in 18th-century Quebec during the early years of British military occupation, the story is loosely inspired by the 1763 "la Corriveau" affair. Le Gardeur returns home to see his ailing father, who dies before he arrives, and falls in love with Marie-Loup, the town's healer; but the hostility of Père Blondeau and the illegal dealings of the company he inherits put the couple in grave danger. The international cast includes Noémie Godin-Vigneau, David La Haye, Gérard Depardieu, Irène Jacob, Vincent Pérez, Tim Roth, Jason Isaacs and Colm Meaney.
