François Berléand — Biography

François Berléand was born on 22 April 1952 in Paris. After training in commerce he turned to theatre, studying under Tania Balachova, and built his reputation with supporting parts in Louis Malle's Au revoir les enfants and Milou en mai as well as Catherine Breillat's Romance.

He gained wide fame at forty-seven for the 1999 film My Little Business, which brought him the César Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2000. He has since appeared in roughly forty feature films and plays Gilles Triquet, the French counterpart to David Brent, in the Canal+ series Le Bureau, an adaptation of The Office.

From 2002 he reprised the role of Commissioner Tarconi across the Transporter film trilogy and its television spin-off. He holds both the Knight and Officer ranks of the Legion of Honour.
