La Balance

La Balance is a 1982 French police thriller written and directed by the American-born filmmaker Bob Swaim. Its ensemble includes Nathalie Baye, Philippe Léotard, Tchéky Karyo, Maurice Ronet and Jean-Paul Comart. The picture drew over four million cinema-goers in France, finishing among the top five box-office successes of its year. At the 1983 César ceremony it took home the prizes for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress, while collecting eight nominations overall, among them directing, original screenplay and editing. Distributed in the United States as The Nark, it stands as one of the better-known French crime dramas of the early 1980s.
