The Wound of the Tongue (Dil Yarası) (translated)
Dil Yarası is a Turkish drama feature released in 1984. Yaşar Seriner directed from a screenplay by Suphi Tekniker, with Mahmut Hekimoğlu and Ergün Hekimoğlu producing for Ömür Film. Erdoğan Engin served as cinematographer on the 75-minute colour production, shot on 35 mm.
The story unfolds in the shadow of a blood feud. As a boy, Orhan goes to the market with his father to buy shoes and watches him gunned down before his eyes by the family's enemies. Years later, raised on thoughts of revenge, he is trained in the use of firearms by his uncle and sent to Istanbul by his grandmother to track down the killer. The search leads nowhere for a long time, until chance brings him face to face with the daughter of the man he is hunting. What begins as friendship turns into love, leaving Orhan caught between his oath of vengeance and his heart.
Orhan Gencebay and Yaprak Özdemiroğlu head the cast, which also features Hayati Hamzaoğlu, Menderes Samancılar, Hülya Tuğlu, Tuncer Necmioğlu, Nuran Aksoy and Muazzez Kurdoğlu. As was standard practice in Turkish cinema of the period, the film was dubbed in post-production: Abdurrahman Palay voiced Orhan Gencebay and Jeyan Mahfi Tözüm voiced Yaprak Özdemiroğlu.
