Diet (Diyet) (translated)
Diyet is a Turkish drama television film adapted from the short story of the same name by Ömer Seyfettin, broadcast on TRT in 1975. It appeared in the "Ömer Seyfettin Stories" cycle under the title "Eski Kahramanlar - Diyet" (Old Heroes - Diyet), with Lütfi Akad both writing the screenplay and directing.
At the center of the story stands Koca Ali, played by Kadir Savun, a lonely blacksmith who forges swords. In his autobiography Işıkla Karanlık Arasında, Akad describes Koca Ali's conduct less as a passion for freedom than as the natural behavior of a man who has never known slavery, tracing it to centuries of accumulation in Anatolia, where a slave-based mode of production was never practiced. The cast also includes Aydemir Akbaş, Mete Sezer, Yılmaz Gruda and Osman Çağlar.
