Pride and Prejudice (Gurur)

Pride and Prejudice is a six-part 1995 British television drama adapted by Andrew Davies from Jane Austen's 1813 novel. Directed by Simon Langton and produced by Sue Birtwistle, it was a BBC production with additional funding from the American A&E Network. The roughly 55-minute episodes aired on BBC One from 24 September to 29 October 1995, while A&E broadcast the series in double episodes over three consecutive nights beginning 14 January 1996.

Set in early nineteenth-century England, the story follows the Bennet family and their five unmarried daughters after the wealthy, eligible Mr. Bingley and his friend Mr. Darcy move into the neighbourhood. While Bingley is drawn to the eldest daughter Jane, Darcy finds himself in constant verbal sparring with the second daughter, Elizabeth. Starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, the series won critical and popular acclaim, earning Ehle the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress and an Emmy for costume design. The role of Darcy elevated Firth to stardom, and the series later inspired Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones novels.
