The Karadede Affair (Karadedeler Olayı) (translated)

Karadedeler Olayı is a Turkish horror, thriller, and mystery film released on September 16, 2011. Directed by Erkan Bağbakan and written by Erdoğan Bağbakan, the 78-minute production uses the found footage technique and has been compared in form to The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. Its producers claimed the film was not fiction but a documentary-style compilation of amateur VHS recordings from 1989, and this assertion of authenticity became the centerpiece of its marketing strategy.

The story follows a young journalist, H.B., who travels to a village after reading strange newspaper reports in January 1989. The frightened villagers speak of creatures roaming at night and of jinn haunting the area. After weeks without witnessing anything unusual, H.B. entrusts his camera to a local youth and returns to Istanbul. Three days later, seven people, including that youth, are found brutally killed. The journalist is detained, then released, but his belongings turn up abandoned in the forest and he vanishes. Throughout these events, the cameras keep recording.
