La Chamade
Directed by Alain Cavalier, the 1968 French-Italian romantic drama La Chamade adapts Françoise Sagan's 1965 novel of the same name, with Sagan herself contributing to the screenplay. The story centers on Lucile, a young woman kept in comfortable idleness by Charles, her older, wealthy lover. When she meets Antoine, a working-class man her own age, she finds herself caught between two men and two ways of life: the secure but dependent existence she knows and a passionate yet uncertain future. Her struggle to choose between comfort and genuine feeling drives the film. Catherine Deneuve and Michel Piccoli head the cast, supported by Roger Van Hool, Jacques Sereys and Irène Tunc.
