The Guest (Misafir) (translated)

Misafir (The Visitor) is a 2015 Turkish drama film directed by Mehmet Eryılmaz. It is the director's second feature, following A Fairground Attraction, and stars Zümrüt Erkin alongside Tamer Levent, Ayten Uncuoğlu, Hale Akınlı, Ersin Umut Güler and young actress Melek Çınar. Fatih Al, who played Cemal in Eryılmaz's previous film, returns in the same role, now as Nur's lover, while Sema Moritz contributes songs.

The story follows Nur, who was driven out of her father's house years earlier and returns with her young daughter upon learning that her mother is dying. Set against the theme of death, the film examines the universal mother-daughter relationship and addresses sexual abuse within the family as a subplot. It premiered on 1 September 2015 at the 39th Montreal World Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Award and the Grand Jury Prize.
