Patate is a 1964 French-Italian comedy directed by Robert Thomas, who co-wrote the screenplay with Marcel Achard, adapting Achard's stage play of the same name. The story follows Léon Rollo, an unlucky inventor nicknamed "Patate," who lives with his wife Édith and their daughter Alexa, whom he adores. His best friend Noël succeeds at everything he attempts, and Patate cannot help envying his friend's extraordinary luck. The cast includes Pierre Dux, Jean Marais, Danielle Darrieux and Sylvie Vartan. In English-speaking markets the picture was released under the title Friend of the Family.
