Spartacus and the Ten Gladiators

Spartacus and the Ten Gladiators (original title: Gli invincibili dieci gladiatori) is a 1964 sword-and-sandal film directed by Nick Nostro. An international co-production between Italy, France and Spain, it was co-written by Nostro together with Alfonso Balcázar and Sergio Sollima. Like many peplum pictures of the era, the story is set in ancient Rome and follows Spartacus at the head of a band of ten gladiators caught up in struggles against Roman power, mixing arena combat with adventure. Dan Vadis stars in the title role, with a supporting cast that includes Helga Liné, Aldo Canti, Sal Borgese, Gianni Rizzo and Milton Reid. Shot in Italian and running roughly 88 minutes, the film belongs to the wave of low-budget mythological and historical adventures that flourished in Italian cinema during the early 1960s, and Sollima's involvement in the script connects it to the broader tradition of Italian genre filmmaking of the period.
