The Curse
The Curse is a black-and-white Iranian film from 1973, both directed and written by Nasser Taghvai. The story is adapted from a short story by Finnish author Mika Waltari, known in Persian translation under a title meaning roughly 'The Swamp'.
Behruz Vüsuki takes the lead role, appearing alongside Fakhri Khorvash and Jamshid Mashayekhi; Mohammadtaghi Kohanmouei and Ali Dehghan, both already documented on this site, also feature in the cast. The picture was released in the Iranian calendar year 1352, corresponding to 1973 on the Gregorian calendar. Running roughly one hundred minutes, the film reflects Taghvai's early interest in bringing literary source material, including work translated from outside Iran, to the screen during the pre-revolutionary era of Iranian cinema.
