The Two Faces of January
Adapted from Patricia Highsmith's 1964 novel of the same name, The Two Faces of January marks the feature directing debut of screenwriter Hossein Amini. Set in 1962, it follows wealthy American couple Chester MacFarland (Viggo Mortensen) and his wife Colette (Kirsten Dunst), who, while sightseeing at the Acropolis in Athens, meet Rydal (Oscar Isaac), a young man working as a tour guide. Charmed by Colette's beauty and Chester's apparent fortune, Rydal accepts the couple's dinner invitation, but when Chester asks his help moving an unconscious man in their hotel, it becomes clear the pair are hiding dark secrets. Rydal is drawn into a tightening web of crime and suspicion. The film was shot on location in Athens, Crete and Istanbul, as well as at Ealing Studios in London, and Turkish actors Yiğit Özşener and Okan Avcı appear in the cast. It premiered in February 2014 in the Berlinale Special Galas section of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival.
