Themroc

Themroc is a 1973 French satirical film written and directed by Claude Faraldo. Shot on a small budget, it contains almost no intelligible dialogue; the characters communicate through grunts, shouts and screams, yet the situations and context keep every exchange perfectly understandable.

The story follows Themroc, a French blue-collar worker who rebels against modern society and gradually regresses into an urban caveman. The cast, drawn largely from the Café de la Gare theatre troupe, includes Michel Piccoli, Coluche, Miou-Miou and Jeanne Herviale. Its scenes of incest and cannibalism brought the film adults-only ratings, and in 1986 it became the first title screened in Britain's Channel 4 red triangle series of controversial films. Over the years it has acquired the status of a cult film.
