They Call Me Trinity (Lo chiamavano Trinità…)

They Call Me Trinity (Italian: Lo chiamavano Trinità...), made in 1970, is an Italian comedy Western, also known in Turkey as My Name Is Trinity. It is best known for turning the bloody spaghetti Western into a parody, replacing gunfights with the fist fights of Terence Hill and Bud Spencer. The film was a big success, made both actors internationally famous and is regarded as a classic by fans of comedy and of Westerns alike. A sequel followed in 1971 with the same director and duo.

The story is set around 1895. Hill and Spencer play the half-brothers Trinity and Bambino. Trinity is a master of the revolver, and together they defend a community of Mormon farmers against the men of the land-grabbing Major Harriman (Farley Granger) and Mexican bandits. Steffen Zacharias, Gisela Hahn, Remo Capitani and Luciano Rossi also appear.

Enzo Barboni wrote and directed under the pseudonym E.B. Clucher, with Italo Zingarelli producing and West Film providing financial backing. Shooting took place at Campo Imperatore in Abruzzo, and Franco Micalizzi composed the music. The film runs 110 minutes and opened in West German cinemas on 2 March 1971. A third instalment came in 1995, with other actors playing the sons of the original pair.
