Turkish for Beginners (Türkisch für Anfänger) (translated)

Türkisch für Anfänger ("Turkish for Beginners") is a German comedy-drama television series created by Bora Dağtekin and produced by Hoffmann & Voges. It aired on ARD's Das Erste from 14 March 2006 to 12 December 2008, running for three seasons and 52 episodes of roughly 25 minutes each — the third, 16-episode season having been ordered on the strength of popular demand.

Set in Berlin, the show follows the German-Turkish stepfamily Schneider-Öztürk, formed when a German single mother of two moves in with a widowed Turkish police officer and his two teenage children. Everyday life and cross-cultural collisions are narrated by the eldest daughter, Lena. Adnan Maral, an actor in our database, plays the father Metin, with Josefine Preuß, Elyas M'Barek and Pegah Ferydoni among the cast.

The series was broadcast in around 70 countries, has even been used in German-language classes in some Swedish schools, and aired for a time in Turkey on MTV Türkiye under the title Turkish for Beginners. A namesake feature film, loosely based on the show's premise and featuring actors from the series, was released in 2012.
