Ünal Gürel — Biography

Ünal Gürel (May 9, 1935, Adapazarı – April 8, 2002, Istanbul) was one of the familiar faces of Turkey's Yeşilçam-era cinema, working both as a film actor and a voice-over artist. He began his artistic career in theatre, performing with several stage companies before moving into film in 1964, and continued to combine acting with dubbing work throughout his career.

His most memorable role came in the 1977 comedy Sakar Şakir, in which he played 'Gardırop Fuat' opposite Kemal Sunal — a part still remembered decades later for the line 'Yanıyorsun Fuat Abi!' Gürel also appeared in comedies such as Tokatçı (1983) and Yedi Bela Hüsnü (1982), as well as the television series Yorgun Savaşçı (1979).

Following his death in Istanbul in 2002, Turkish entertainment media has periodically noted that his son also went on to build a recognized career in the entertainment industry.
