Almila Bağrıaçık — Biography

Almila Bağrıaçık was born on 10 July 1990 in Ankara; her parents, both correspondents for Turkish media, moved with her to Berlin in 1995, where she grew up speaking German and Turkish. In 2008 she was discovered by chance by a photographer at a club in Kreuzberg and invited to an audition, leading to the role of Rana in Feo Aladağ's Ayrılık, which premiered at the 2010 Berlinale. Around the same time she performed on stage at Berlin's Hebbel am Ufer theatre.

She played Arzu in 300 Worte Deutsch (2013) and took her first major lead role in Hördur (2014), earning a German Film Critics Award nomination. Her portrayal of Semiya Şimşek in Die Opfer – Vergesst mich nicht (2016) won her the German Actors Award in 2017. That same year she gained international recognition as Amara in the Berlin crime series 4 Blocks, which went on to win the Grimme Prize and a Goldene Kamera among other honours. From 2017 she has played commissioner Mila Sahin in the Kiel episodes of Tatort, and in 2022 she joined the Netflix series Die Kaiserin. In Türkiye, she became known as Filiz in the series Hayat Şarkısı (2016).
