İsmet Üstekin — Biography

İsmet Üstekin (born 1946, İstanbul) is a Turkish painter, photographer, and theater, film and television actor.

He studied at the LCC Language and Culture Center theater school between 1968 and 1971. From 1971 onwards he performed in many roles in various plays at the LCC Theatre, Bakırköy Halkevi, the Nisa Serezli – Tolga Aşkıner Theatre, the Devekuşu Kabare Theatre, the Ali Poyrazoğlu Theatre, the Gülriz Sururi – Engin Cezzar Theatre, the Dormen Theatre, the Şan Theatre, the İstanbul Sanat Theatre, the Bakırköy Municipal Theatres, Tiyatro İstanbul and Tiyatro 89. Beginning in 1973 he moved in front of the camera, acting in films and television series.

He turned professional as a photographer in 1975 and began painting in 1982. He held 14 solo exhibitions of his oil and pastel works and took part in group exhibitions. Using a technique of turning his photographs into paintings, he named the result "Fotores". He held his first Fotores exhibition at Galeri Arkeopera in İstanbul.

In 1968 he married the actress Sevil Barutçu; the marriage lasted until 1984.
