Belene

Belene is a four-episode historical Turkish television series broadcast on TRT 1. It was directed by Hüseyin Karakaş, written by Avni Özgürel and produced by İbrahim Başar.

The series deals with the pressure and assimilation policies imposed on Turks living in Bulgaria between 1984 and 1989. Its story centers on those exiled to the camp on the island of Belene and the suffering and abuse they endured there.

The large cast is led by Mehmet Aslantuğ as the teacher Ahmet and Salih Kalyon as Asım Bayramoğlu, with performers such as İsmet Üstekin, Orçun Sonat, Selda Özer, Bilal Yıkılmaz and İhsan Yüce also appearing.
