Karmen — Biography

Karmen was an Iranian actress whose screen career ran from the late 1950s to the late 1970s. Before entering cinema she spent years working in Tehran's theatres, performing at the Nasr, Barbad, Pars and Tafakkori stages in productions that included "Ki Be Kiye", where she shared the stage with Majid Mohseni.

After playing a singer in "Ghorub-e Setaregan" at the Pars Theatre, she also began singing on stage and gave concerts in provincial towns. Her film debut came with "Yeki Bud Yeki Nabud" (1958-59), directed by Rahim Roshanian.

Over roughly the next two decades she appeared in films such as Ganj-e Gharoon (1965), Ghoroube Botparastan, Man ham gerye kardam and Barefoot (all 1968), Noghre-Dagh, Roosiah, Taher, The Barefoot Bride and Koose-ye Jonoob, before retiring from acting at the end of the 1970s. She also earned her living from a tailoring shop she owned. Her son, Hamid Reza Khosravi, entered cinema as a small child and acted alongside Ezzatollah Entezami and Saeed Rad in "Sadegh Kordeh".
